A Dream Come True

From when I was a kid, I always dreamed of attending the Olympic Games. Each year I followed the games closely on TV, all the while picturing myself sat in the stands with the rest of the spectators eagerly cheering the players on. Sometimes it seemed so real to me; I could see the desperation in the eyes of the runners when it dawned on them that they weren’t going to win, the way the winner propels himself forward when he gets to the ribbon, pushing past and excitedly claiming his prize.

I could feel the guttural finality when the boxer swings the winning blow, the exuberant fever that seemed to seize everyone in the stadium; I had gotten familiar with all the sights and sounds of all the games safe from the comfort of my home TV. But I was finally going to experience it all live!

Last Olympics, I came close to attending.
