Wakanow Clinches Double Honours at MarketingWord Awards

It was a harvest of laurels recently when Nigeria’s No1 travel company, Wakanow, carted home double honours at this year’s edition of the prestigious Marketing World Awards held at the Oriental Hotels, Lagos.

The company was specially recognized for its innovative approach to promoting travel and tourism in Africa. The honor is coming on the heels of major accolades and recognition the company had garnered over the course of the year from different bodies. On the other hand, its Chief Marketing Officer, Mrs. Victoria Onwubiko, was individually recognized as one of the three outstanding women in the Nigerian marketing space.

According to the organizers, the award is a recognition of Wakanow’s position as a travel brand of choice in Nigeria where it has consistently showed commitment to providing excellent services and memorable travel experiences for its customers. Every year, the award celebrates top brands and individuals that have delivered superior brand value to the market through exceptional marketing strategies.

Receiving the awards, Mrs. Onwubiko described the awards as demonstration of Wakanow’s unmatched leadership as Nigeria’s foremost travel company.

She praised the exceptional courage of the founders who, despite the cynicism associated with online travel booking at the time, braved the odds to create Nigeria’s first and most admired travel brand.

“Just like other high-profile recognitions we have received this year alone, we are particularly excited by this award for many reasons.  First, having taken the bold step to redefine the story of travel in Africa about six years ago, the founders had to deal with the huge skepticism associated with online travel, and quite a huge number of persons faulted the business model.
