WORLD TOURISM DAY 2021
World tourism day is annually observed on the 27th of September by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). It’s a day to celebrate the importance of tourism and ensure its sustainability.
The theme for World Tourism day 2021 is designated as Tourism for Inclusive Growth. Recently, the tourism industry has had to deal with a global pandemic; COVID-19. This is probably the biggest crisis that the industry has had to face and it has definitely taken a toll on the industry. As the tourism industry recovers, the theme seeks to promote tourism as a driver of economic growth, inclusive development and environmental sustainability. The UNWTO says “The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on tourism could result in a more than $4 trillion loss to the global economy…” therefore the importance of tourism to the global economy cannot be undermined.
